10 Tips for Using Audio to Build Your Business

Audio MarketingAs a follow-up to my last post about video marketing, I thought I should also do a post on audio marketing, since many people feel  intimidated by video – they are uncomfortable being on camera, or don’t want the extra work required to create video.

And audio can be an extremely effective marketing tool when done correctly. Listening to a recording is often much more compelling than reading it. Many people are auditory, and find it easier to focus.

However, there’s a right and wrong way to do it. For example, you don’t want to have music blasting when someone visits your site, or have audio that is too fuzzy to understand. These will probably do more harm than good.

Ten tips to use audio to help grow your business

1. Use audio testimonials

Hearing somebody tell how good your product is much more powerful than reading it.

2. Use audio to increase opt-ins

Adding a recording to your opt-in page can dramatically increase conversion rates.

3. Have an audio version of your product

It’s a great business practice to leverage your information products. You can record an ebook, for example. That way you have it in writing for those who prefer to read and in audio for those who would rather listen to a recording of your product than read it. So offering both ways will probably increase your sales.

4. Make it the right length for your purpose

In general, try to keep your audio two to three minutes or less for an informational or sales audio. This is typically when people lose interest. However, it obviously will need to be longer if the recording is the product itself, such as a recording of an ebook.

5. Interview an expert

Find someone well known in your niche and interview them. This can be part of your reason to get people to sign up for your newsletter.

6. Teleconferences

You can either have people attend it live or not. As long as you record it, you can then use that it as a stand-alone product, as a bonus for your main product, or as a pre-sale to get people to opt in to your newsletter.

7. Do webinars

Of course, a webinar is a teleconference in which you also show your desktop with slides, videos, audios, etc.

8. Keep within your budget

You don’t need to buy the most expensive software. A lot of people mistakenly believe they need the priciest application to get an effective recording, but this isn’t the case. There are low-cost and even free options for teleconferencing and webinars. Research to find out which are best for your needs and budget.

9. Have good sound quality

It doesn’t have to be perfect, but you don’t want it to be fuzzy either. This is true no matter what the audio is for, whether it’s a short recording on your sales letter, or the recording for your product itself.

10. Outsource it

Many people simply do not want to record for one reason or another. If that’s the case, there are a number of companies that will do it for you.
The bottom line is, audio in marketing can be extremely effective for boosting your business. Implement one or all of these tips, and you will see good results from it.
